Sorry for the Lapse

It's been a while since my last post.

I've been really busy with the day job, which took me to San Diego Comic Con... pretty cool. I got to do some cool things like hang out with the conceptual artist for the Lord of the Rings movies, John Howe, as well as comics writer Peter David, and Ultimates/Fantastic four artist Bryan Hitch. You can read about some of this stuff on my work blog the M-Word.

I also went on a quick vacation to Chicago to see the band She and Him, featuring the amazing singing of Zooey Deschanel... I think I'm a fan.

So, on the subject of FBP, today I was talking with a former FBP member who worked on Issue 1, which made me think I need to get to blogging again. She and I were chatting about my plans for trying to keep this lit journal press thing going, which made me think maybe I should talk a little about my grand plan. Which, is as follows.

I'm planning to release a collection of short stories within the next year or so under the FBP imprint. My hope is that doing so with spark some interest and help me start working on a second volume of issues, whether they are online issues or for print. Stay tuned for updates.

Cool Zombie Book

Check out this cool book of zombie poetry:

Zombie Haiku by Ryan Mecum

It's a cinematic narrative about a zombie plague told through the intimate poetry of haiku. Hilarious. Also, check out this video promo for the book.

Checking In

It's been a while since my last post to this blog, but I've been making posts at my marketing for writer's blog The M-Word and on my blog for my Monster Spotter's book.

No real FBP news. Summer has really slowed me down. I've been working on projects around the house. I did recently go through some backlogged FBP submissions, even though we're not accepting anything at the moment--essentially doing some housekeeping in the hopes of getting back on track to start accepting submissions again.

Writers Conference and Book Expo

Next weekend I'm off to a writers conference and Book Expo America in Los Angeles for work. Should be exciting to connect with other writers. I'll be making posts on my work blog The M-Word (about Marketing for Writers).

The conference is a great place to meet agents and editors, so I hope to get a chance to pitch a couple of my own book ideas.

I've never been to LA before, so I'm a little nervous/excited about that. I'll try to post some pictures while I'm there.

My Weekend

Busy weekend for me. Lots of work around the house, a black belt ceremony at the school where I take Tae Kwon Do, and a booksigning at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY where I met a nice woman named Jennette Fulda who wrote a weight loss memoire called Half-Assed. Jennette started her blog Half of Me in 2005 and has since gained a large readership, written her book and recently appeared on The Today Show. Check it out... it's an amazing story and she has a hilarious voice.

As for me, I talked to lots of folks about monsters and sold several copies of my book.

Now it's back to the work week. My wife is out of town for a design conference so I've been spending a lot of time hanging out with the dog and our 3 cats. Can you tell I'm lonesome? I don't post a whole lot of "here's what I'm doing" blogs. But, yeah. Last night I started working on a book idea so I'm getting a bit of writing in, which is good. Anyway, that's what I've been doing. Now I'm off to a TKD class.

Book Signing this Weekend

Hi Everyone,
Wanted to let everyone know about an event I have coming up.
Next weekend I'll be attending the Bluegrass Festival of Books at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY where I'll be signing copies of my book Monster Spotter's Guide to North America.

There's lots of authors scheduled covering a wide range of topics both fiction and non-ficition. Come check it out if you're in the area. Please stop by my table and say hi. I'd love to talk to you about writing, monsters or whatever.
